The 2022 season was a special one for the Tennessee Vols baseball program.

Tennessee won the SEC Tournament after losing just seven games during the regular season.

Unfortunately for the Vols, their season ended with a series loss to Notre Dame in the Knoxville Super Regional.

Coming up short of the College World Series certainly put a damper on Tennessee's memorable 2022 season. But that disappointment is something that Vols second baseman Christian Moore used as motivation.

After Tennessee's loss in the Super Regional last season, Moore tweeted a photo of Notre Dame's celebration with the caption "Won’t forget about this one, we’ll be back".

Moore and the Vols delivered on his promise. Not only did Tennessee return to a Super Regional in 2023, but they got the job done by taking two of three from Southern Mississippi to advance to the College World Series.

Anything can happen once teams get to Omaha — all eight programs have championship-caliber teams.

But considering the expectations put on the Vols entering the 2023 season, I'd say this year has been a smashing success regardless of what happens in the College World Series — even with the up-and-down regular season.

Of course, the Vols probably don't see it that way. For them, the job isn't finished yet. They want to bring a trophy back to Knoxville.

Tennessee's peaking at the right time. They may not be the favorites to win it all (most folks think that's LSU or Wake Forest), but the Vols have as good of a shot as anyone to be the last team standing in Omaha.

The Vols' first game in the College World Series, against LSU, will take place at 7:00 PM ET on Saturday night.
