Former Tennessee Vols pass rusher Byron Young was selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams are hoping that Young can develop into a reliable pass-rushing option for a defense that moved on from former first-round draft pick Leonard Floyd earlier this offseason.

Young totaled 12.5 sacks during his two seasons at Tennessee (including 7.0 sacks as a senior in 2022).

Rams head coach Sean McVay was asked about Young at Los Angeles' minicamp this week.

And the Super Bowl-winning head coach had plenty of positive things to say about the former Vol.

“He’s doing a good job. We’re throwing a lot at him,” said McVay. “I think (outside linebackers coach) Joe Coniglio has done an outstanding job in general, really with a lot of those rookies. Whether it’s Byron, Ochaun (Mathis), you look at Nick (Hampton), three rookie draft picks from the outside linebacker spot. But Byron, incredible athleticism. He looks like he’s chiseled out of granite out here. But he plays with a relentless motor. He’s conscientious, he’s coachable as hell. And I think he’s really going to only continue to get better. I like what I’ve seen."

Young is an incredible athlete who has an extremely high ceiling. And he has a lot of untapped potential due to only playing major college football for two seasons.

The Georgia native has a chance to make a big impact for the Rams as a rookie in 2023. And so far, it sounds like he's making the most of his opportunity.
