Matthew Judon's recruiting efforts continue, and this time its to get star receiver DeAndre Hopkins to join the New England Patriots.
While he is very confident in the Patriots current receiving core and did not provide a detailed answer when asked about the possibility of Hopkins joining the team following Tuesday's minicamp session, the linebacker gave his honest opinion on Thursday night.
“He still has that decision to make to where he wants to play,” Judon said to WPRI-TV’s JP Smollins at a charity event in Rhode Island. “But he’s a very talented football player. Everything that he’s done in his career can’t be taken away from him. So, if he wants to join the team, we’ll love to have him. But if not, we’ve played him before, so we know how to guard him as well.”
Hopkins posted a photo on his Instagram story alongside Judon in the Patriots locker room during his visit on Thursday and captioned it "La familia." And if that comment is any indication, Hopkins might be viewing Judon and possibly the Patriots as his new family.
And based on his Twitter presence, Judon has been attempting to recruit Hopkins since he was released by the Arizona Cardinals, saying that he is willing to pay $500 to a charity of the star receiver's choosing if he signs with the Patriots. A few other players (current and former) joined in on the fun; however, Judon did deny ever sending the tweet addressed towards Hopkins.
He continued by saying that he would rather "focus on players that we have here," while also admitting that Hopkins has done "amazing things," on Tuesday.
However, following Hopkins visit, Judon was very willing to give his true opinion on the receiver, which might be good news regarding Hopkins future with the Patriots.
