New England Patriots release final injury report for Week 1 tilt vs. Seattle Seahawks with a key absence threatening to alter the game
The New England Patriots will officially be without second-year RB TreVeyon Henderson in Week 1 vs. the Seattle Seahawks.
The New England Patriots have released their final injury report ahead of their Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks on their banner-raising night.
The Patriots will kick off the season facing off against the team they lost to during Super Bowl LX on Wednesday, Sept. 9. There’s a lot riding on this matchup for New England. Obviously, the revenge aspect from the Super Bowl loss, but also starting the season off on the right foot after controversy surrounded Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and his affair with former NFL reporter Dianna Russini.
If the Patriots are to overcome what is a tough hand dealt during Week 1, they’re going to need all the help they can get. Unfortunately for them, they will be without two players, including a key piece to their rushing attack.
Patriots rule out RB TreVeyon Henderson and C Ben Brown for Week 1
On Tuesday, the Patriots ruled out center Ben Brown with a knee injury and running back TreVeyon Henderson with an ankle injury. Both players missed all three practices this week, making it difficult for them to have any chance of playing in Week 1. Brown is the top backup center for New England, but the Patriots’ starting five will be available to play. They’ll simply have to find a suitable backup to replace Brown.
Henderson is coming off an impressive rookie campaign, logging 180 carries for 911 yards and nine touchdowns. He was one of the most productive rookie rushers a season ago. He’s been out of practice with an ankle injury suffered in late August and has not practiced for New England since Aug. 24.
How the Patriots will adjust without Henderson
With Henderson sidelined by injury, Rhamondre Stevenson is likely to be the No. 1 running back. Corey Kiner will likely back him up, followed by either practice-squad elevations of Lan Larison or Hassan Haskins.
This is a blow to the Patriots’ offense. Yes, they have some veteran depth that can help. However, Stevenson will struggle to replicate the big-play element Henderson brings. Stevenson is more of a bruiser as a running back. Kiner is more of a third-down running back with pass-protection ability and can contribute in the passing game and on special teams.
Christian Barmore cleared, carries no game status designation
Christian Barmore missed practice early in the week due to load management. The defensive tackle is now off the injury report entirely. He carries no game status designation for Wednesday. That’s a positive development for a Patriots defense looking to set the tone in Week 1.
The Patriots kick off the 2026 NFL season versus the Seahawks at Lumen Field at 8:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday night. It remains to be seen how they’ll adjust to Henderson’s absence. There’s little doubt that the lack of explosiveness in the run game is a big hit to the Patriots’ offense.
They will have to generate their explosive plays through the air. That shouldn’t be an issue with quarterback Drake Maye at the helm for New England. The big fear is becoming one-dimensional in one of the NFL’s most hostile environments.
