The Kansas City Chiefs' new backup quarterback has now been teammates with two of the best ever to sling it.

When Chad Henne retired after winning the Super Bowl, the Chiefs had to find a new quarterback who could be as much of a pro as he was in Kansas City. So, they found Blaine Gabbert, who was on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the last few years.

Gabbert has been teammates with some pretty good quarterbacks during his 12 years of NFL experience, but none better than the greatest to ever do it: Tom Brady.

On Thursday, he was asked about some possible similarities between the two.

"They're maniacal perfectionists. That's, and I mean that in the most endearing way possible, they're two, they're the two best, in my opinion, to ever play the game," Blaine Gabbert told the media. "To see the similarities, kind of how they operate in the meeting room on the practice field. Now, they're completely different players, as we all know. But the way they approach the game on and off the football field is the exact same way, and you can see why they both have had such sustained success early on and then throughout their careers."

Maniacal perfectionist is a great way to describe the two that I have never heard used before. That is certainly Mahomes, and you can see that in how he prepares for every game like it's the Super Bowl. He already has two MVP awards and two Super Bowl MVPs in his seven seasons.

But there is something else that sets him apart too.

"His attention to detail. He's a master of the system," Gabbert said. "He's been in it now, I think, going on seven years. He still approaches it like it's day one, still taking notes the same way as he did as a rookie as all quarterbacks. Do you need to kind of refresh every single year? And there's always something that he wants to work on. Always something to improve on, always something to get better at."

There is no doubt that Mahomes is the next closest thing to Brady, and everyone else knows that too, or the comparisons wouldn't constantly be there. Mahomes has already managed to master the game of football and do things that no one does, and, to make things better; the rings are coming along too.

But something tells me in the future, we could be having a debate about which one is the G.O.A.T.
