Lane Kiffin has spent 11 seasons in college football as a head coach.

Kiffin, who is entering his fourth season as the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels, is 84-46 during his 11 seasons as a head coach.

That's a solid, though unspectacular record.

Kiffin's wild career arc — he was the head coach of the then-Oakland Raiders before he was ever a college football head coach — has brought a significant amount of attention to the former Fresno State quarterback that he doesn't really deserve.

In a world of Nick Sabans and Kirby Smarts, Kiffin is a Mark Richt at best. He's usually going to have a respectable season, but he's probably not delivering a national championship.

And I'm not the only one who feels that way.

MikeFarrell.com recently listed Kiffin as one of five head coaches that will never win a national championship.

From MikeFarrell.com: For a coach whose resume at age 47 looks like a Hall of Fame one consisting of head coach gigs with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders, and in college being a head coach at Tennessee, Southern California, Florida Atlantic, and now Ole Miss, as well as being an offensive coordinator at Southern California and Alabama, has any coach failed forward or had the number of redemptions like Kiffin?

In Kiffin's defense, it's not really viewed as realistic to win a championship at Ole Miss. Perhaps things would be different for Kiffin if he were at Texas A&M or Florida.

If Kiffin is going to prove MikeFarrell.com wrong, he'll likely need to exit Oxford. But after turning down Auburn last winter, Kiffin might decide that having an enjoyable day-to-day life while coaching at an SEC school that's loaded with great traditions is better than chasing a national championship that may never come (unless you're Saban or Smart, the stars truly have to align for a championship to be possible).

Ole Miss fans might not like it, but Kiffin winning a national championship is more likely not to happen than it is to happen.
