A key Tennessee Vols assistant has UT in the mix for a 2025 four-star defensive lineman from South Carolina.

Amare Adams, 6-foot-3/275 lbs from Florence, SC, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 6 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of South Carolina.

Adams is also rated as the No. 92 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.

The South Carolina native visited Tennessee this past weekend and he's a big fan of Vols defensive line coach Rodney Garner and graduate assistant Robert Ayers (a former Tennessee and NFL standout).

“I have visited Tennessee twice and I like coach Josh Heupel," said Adams recently to On3. "He is a great head coach and he is building something special in Knoxville. The coach I talk to the most is Rodney Garner. I talk to coach Robert Ayers a lot too. Coach Garner is a coach I really like. He is one of those guys that wants the best for his players.”

Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, and South Carolina are also in the mix for Adams.

This recruiting battle likely won't be decided for a while. Adams told On3 that he's not planning to commit until next summer at the earliest. And he said he might wait until after his senior season to commit. That's good news for the Vols because it gives Tennessee at least one more season to show they can sustain the success they've found so far under Heupel.
