Steelers Calvin Austin III 2023 Pittsburgh Steelers breakout candidates

There are plenty of Pittsburgh Steelers' recent draft picks to be excited about.

The past two drafts have seen talent acquired across the board, foreshadowing the potential for a special group of players for years to come.

But one of those players isn't getting nearly the pub he deserves:

Calvin Austin III, WR

Austin missed the entirety of his rookie campaign with injury, making 2023 his de-facto rookie season. So while there will certainly be a "grace period" the speedy gadget player from Memphis may take on a bigger role than you think.

Along with playing wide receiver at a variety of alignments, Austin has been fielding punts and kicks this offseason, potentially foreshadowing another role for the dynamic playmaker.

But don't just take my word for it, none other than Steelers starting tailback Najee Harris sees a big year coming for Austin, noting:

"I think he's gonna be featured a lot," running back Najee Harris said, per Teresa Varley of the team's official website. "He's gonna put a lot of pressure on defenses."

4.32 speed will put a lot of pressure on anybody trying to defend this playmaker, especially given his start-stop ability and impressive lateral agility.

If healthy, Austin could take what many believe to be an average group of receivers, to one of the best in the league in my opinion.
