The Philadelphia Eagles are projected to be the class of the NFC this season. The Niners, alongside the San Francisco 49ers, are highly regarded as the best two teams in the conference. Philly has all the talent in the world to create another Super Bowl run. We all know that when you roster Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, Dallas Goedert, and co. on offense. On defense, they deploy Darius Slay and James Bradberry in their secondary with an elite defensive line with plenty of young upside.
With all of their skill in a weak NFC, they have some pressure on them. Another major playoff run is mandatory. In fact, Dan Hanzus of NFL.com believes that the urgency for the Eagles is a 9.6 out of 10.
The Eagles are absolutely loaded. If not for a controversial defensive holding call late in Super Bowl LVII, they might be defending champions. They bring back nearly their entire core from last year's dominant group, and Jalen Hurts will enter his fourth season as a top MVP candidate entering his prime. Philadelphia seems set up well for years to come, which should keep the team away from an exercise like this — and yet, it behooves these Eagles to seize the moment in 2023. If we're being kind, we'll call the NFC unsettled. If we're being honest, it's a watered-down landscape loaded with pretenders. The 49ers appear to be the only other conference superpower, and there's a scenario in which that team starts Sam Darnold in Week 1. The Eagles should contend in the conference for years to come, but the runway might never be as clear as it is right now. — Hanzus
The Eagles are under pressure. That may surprise some folks after a very productive season under head coach Nick Sirianni last year. In an ultra-compeititve market, you cannot take the foot off the gas, though. An underwhelming season in Philly would be very disappointing due to the precedent set by these coaches and players so far. They need to take home the NFC hardware and represent them in the Super Bowl again.
