The Philadelphia Eagles have a plethora of defensive talent. At every level, they have a blend of youth and veteran players that will make major impacts this season. The Eagles need linebacker Nakobe Dean to step up into a starting role.
After an impressive college career, the Eagles took Dean in the third round of last year's draft. Dean played just 34 defensive snaps last season, but he did make plays on special teams. He played 75% of special teams snaps for Philly, but now, he will transition to a starting role on the defense.
That was really always the plan with him in Philly. Dean was a raw prospect that would need time, and he's gotten it with the Eagles. Accordingly, Mike Garafolo believes that Dean will breakout for Philly's defense as a contributor.
It's a great shout from the NFL analyst. Linebacker, outside of Dean, doesn't have too much upside for Philly – compared to other position groups on their defense. He will have opportunities, and coaches raved about his upside in practice last year. His physical abilities are undeniable, but he will have to prove that he can read offenses at the NFL level.
The Eagles added three more former defensive players for the Georgia Bulldogs in this year's draft class. That'll make him feel even more comfortable in Philly. Their defense should be a machine in the NFC.
