Tennessee travels to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama and they'll head to Gainesville to face Florida. The Vols are also set to host Georgia this fall.
Of course, all of that is business as usual for UT. Tennessee is the only program in the SEC that's played Alabama, Georgia, and Florida every year since 1992. They're used to not having it easy.
So how does Tennessee's 2023 schedule (conference and non-conference) — which is the last year that the SEC will have East and West divisions — compare to the rest of the conference?
According to CBS Sports, Tennessee has the sixth toughest schedule in the SEC in 2023, behind Florida (toughest), Ole Miss, South Carolina, Alabama, and Auburn.
From CBS Sports: Tennessee has to face Georgia and Alabama every year, so that isn't a surprise. This season, the road trip to Tuscaloosa will be all about revenge for the Crimson Tide, so buckle up for that one. However, the matchup vs. Virginia in the season opener isn't exactly scary, and the Volunteers have Texas A&M as their rotating cross-division game. There will be pressure on coach Josh Heupel after last season's success, but the strength of this slate is par for the course for the Vols.
This is just business as usual for the Vols. It's never an easy schedule for Tennessee — thanks mostly to the fact that they're the only SEC East team that plays Alabama annually.
Tennessee is hoping to compete for a championship this fall. They'll certainly have their work cut out for them if they're going to make it to the College Football Playoff later this year.
