James Cook went viral for not smiling on the night he was drafted.
The often quiet-mannered running back is looking to make some noise next year. Just a few days ago, when asked about his role, he claimed to "obviously" be RB1 coming into next season.
However, in a recent Instagram Live interview with Jordan Schultz, James Cook opened up on something much bigger than football, and something that immediately brought a smile to his face.
While most of the interview was discussing Madden, some of the top places to eat in Buffalo (James chose Bar Bill and WingNutz, debate in the comments), and what it would look like for Dalvin Cook to join the team, it started with something much more special.
Cook was running a little late because he had just given a speech at a local high school graduation. While Cook didn't go into too much detail, what he did provide gave another look at what type of compassionate and caring man he is outside of the game.
Talking about the commencement speech, Cook being a man of few words elaborated in his own way. "It went very well actually. Just seeing how the kids had to go to their graduation in the parking lot, it was crazy."
After being asked what drove him to do the speech in front of the "30 or 40" kids during graduation, Cook humbly responded, "They reached out, you know, because they don't have a lot of money. Just did it out of the kindness of my heart to give back."
Cook continued, talking about the graduation and how it revolved around kids who maybe needed second chances in life, something the talented running back held near and dear to his own heart.
When asked about what he wanted to relay to the kids who may be battling with their own demons, the Bills' second-year running back wanted his message to be loud and clear "Just never give up."
Cook, right before the season begins, flew from Florida to NY on his own dime in order to give a speech out of the kindness of his heart to a group of kids who fought so hard to graduate.
While he may not have been smiling on draft night, Cook made sure that some of those less fortunate had perhaps the biggest smile of their lives after overcoming adversity to graduate. Buffalo has a bright young leader on their roster in Cook.
Bills: James Cook opens up on Dalvin Cook trade rumors, expectations for next season
The Buffalo Bills have been linked to All-Pro RB Dalvin Cook. His brother, James, shut down that notion after letting the world know he’s going to be RB1 next season.
