The Minnesota Vikings won't start Dalvin Cook at running back this season. Instead, fans will probably see a committee-type unit at RB in Minnesota. For the Vikings, can that work out for their offense? It'll be intriguing to watch because we know how talented their pass catchers are. Even with an inconsistent QB in Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson, T.J. Hockenson, and Jordan Addison are an awesome trio.

A former NFL All-Pro RB is nervous about their running game minus Cook, though. Maurice Jones-Drew weighed in on NFL total Access.

MJD compares Minnesota's situation to his in Jacksonville during the early stages of his career. It is a fair comp to make, too. Alexander Mattison is slotted to take over RB1 duties for the Vikings.

The former star gives Mattison credit for his impressive work as the team's backup behind Cook, but he is warning a bit of caution if fans are expecting an improvement in the backfield. He doesn't undermine what Cook did during his time as the Vikings starter.

Cook was an explosive player, but the injuries did create some issues during his time in Minnesota. After last season, Mattison was prepared for an expanded role, though. He said that he wouldn't have signed a new deal if he was going to solely be a backup again for the Vikings. The writing has been on the wall.

It is tough to project Mattison's impact going forward if he is the main starter. Teams will be able to gameplan for him much better with more film. The depth behind him is unproven, too. MJD is certainly concerned for Minnesota's running attack.
