Former Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Darnell Wright was selected by the Chicago Bears with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Wright, who is expected to start at right tackle for the Bears as a rookie, will be tasked with protecting Chicago quarterback Justin Fields.
Fields is an impressive talent who has the ability to throw a great deep ball while also torching defenses with his legs. The former Ohio State standout, however, struggled at times in 2022 due partially to a less-than-stellar offensive line (the Bears allowed 58 sacks in 2022, fourth-worst in the NFL).
NFL.com sees Wright helping the Bears in that area quite a bit. They predicted this week that Wright will be a member of the NFL's All-Rookie team after the 2023 season.
From NFL.com: The Bears can take the next step in 2023 if Justin Fields ascends to top-10 quarterback status in Year 3. Chicago selected Wright to play right tackle on the revamped offense line, which is tasked with not only protecting the young signal-caller but also leading a power run game with D'Onta Foreman, Khalil Herbert and fourth-round pick Roschon Johnson (whom I considered for this list) at running back.
Wright showed last season at Tennessee that he can be a dominant offensive lineman. The former Vol excelled against some of the SEC's top pass rushers last season, allowing zero sacks despite playing against NFL talent like Alabama's Will Anderson or LSU's BJ Ojulari.
The Bears are counting on Wright to perform at an elite level. And it sounds like the national media is expecting the former Vol to deliver.
