If there is one thing you hear when it comes to depth in the NFL, it is "you can never have too much pass rush."

The Kansas City Chiefs certainly have some depth at the position.

They have the young duo in Felix Anudike-Uzomah and George Karlaftis. They brought in Charles Omenihu this off-season, and they also drafted B.J. Thompson in this last draft. They also have Mike Danna, Joshua Kaindoh, Malik Herring, and Truman Jones on the roster.

The average age of all these edge rushers is 23.6. It is quite the young group, and Charles Omenihu is the longest-tenured edge rusher, as he is set to play in his seventh NFL season.

All this to say, they could use a veteran presence in the room, to mentor the young rushers and help hone their technique. And, even with the promise all of the aforementioned players hold, the team needs to add a defensive linemen that can boost the run defense, which was average, at best, in 2022.

Fortunately there's a guy out there in former Super Bowl champ, Will Gholston.

Pro Football Focus recently released an article naming an ideal signing or trade candidate each team should target before training camp and sure enough, Gholston's name was in the Chiefs' section.

Gholston is a seasoned veteran who has played at least 400 snaps in nine consecutive seasons. He can bring experience to a new regime while providing a consistent presence in base personnel on early downs. In 2022, Gholston had 22 defensive stops and missed on just 3.9% of tackle opportunities.

We discussed extending Chris Jones here, and as Kansas City works through that monster deal, they should reinforce the interior unit alongside him.

Gholston could serve a variety of roles for the Chiefs. He can be a mentor to the young players they have invested in, and he can be a help on early downs, as mentioned.

You should never count out the effect of presence a seasoned veteran can have on young players, especially when you're entire depth chart  is made up of young players.
