Bills Mafia may be divided over a recent ESPN development.
While we are inching closer to the NFL season, things are dead in the sports world right now. Allen appeared on a podcast to talk about all things football and DeAndre Hopkins still hasn't chosen a team. Damar Hamlin is throwing out first pitches and Poyer is hosting golf events.
Outside of that, things are quiet until the team goes to Rochester to begin their next camp, which is open and available to the public.
However, a recent ESPN article highlighted next year's draft class and what all 32 teams are going to do in the first round. While Buffalo looked to get an answer for Tremaine Edmunds's departure by taking Dorian Williams, Jordan Reid had other plans.
In his article, Reid had Buffalo taking another linebacker with the 28th overall pick in next year's NFL draft. The ESPN analyst had Buffalo taking Clemson LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr. to pair up with Matt Milano and fill the hole that Edmunds had left behind.
Trotter's instincts, speed and feel for attacking downhill were consistent on tape during his breakout sophomore year (91 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and two interceptions). At 6-foot, 230 pounds, he isn't a big presence in the middle, but his foresight and reaction skills help him anticipate offensive concepts. The Bills found success in drafting an undersize but instinctive linebacker in Matt Milano in 2017. Pairing him alongside Trotter would provide the team with a really good duo in the middle of Sean McDermott's defense.
Reid talks about Trotter's size and how it may be an issue before gushing over the team drafting Matt Milano in 2017. Pairing Trotter with Milano would be a nightmare matchup for opposing defenses, but puts an even bigger question mark on the upcoming season.
With McDermott taking over calling the plays on defense, and the team not certain on who will be starting at the MLB this upcoming season, things are bound to get interesting quickly in Orchard Park.
Dorian Williams got a less-than-stellar ovation when being selected by the organization. Partially, it could have been the front office's confusing messaging on what would become of Williams in the defense, or that fans thought he was undersized for the position. Nevertheless, if fans weren't happy about Williams and his size, the same could be true with Trotter joining the roster.
All eyes will be on Buffalo, who is looking to win their fourth consecutive AFC East crown and finally make a trip to the Super Bowl. If the defense falters and MLB becomes a glaring weakness, don't be surprised if there's even more noise for Buffalo talking a linebacker in the first round of next year's draft.
