The New York Giants aren't being talked about as a true contender for the title in 2023.
In fact, many viewed their 2022 season as a fluke, with predictions of regression plaguing the Giants' outlook on 2023.
But everyone inside the walls of New York believes they can, and will improve on last season, reaching higher goals this year. Well, if they are to do that, here's where they have to improve:
More Explosive Plays

What Brian Daboll did last season earned him head coach of the year for a reason. Somehow, someway, he dug deeper into his bag (or playbook) seemingly adding new wrinkles in the run game or play-action passing attack on a weekly basis.
But he had to do that because New York couldn't generate a downfield passing attack, with Daniel Jones only attempting 26 passes of 20 yards or more downfield, a rate that tied him for second least in the league.
Things have to change in this regard for New York if they are to improve on an overachieving 2022. The good news is, they have added speed and size with players like Darren Waller, and downfield threats in Parris Campbell and Jalin Hyatt.
Finally in a stable coaching situation and with two top-10 picks at tackle, the weight of the offense is on Daniel Jones' shoulders, making him the catalyst for more explosive plays.
More Takeaways

The biggest question mark about the New York Giants is their defense. We will dive into the secondary next, but overall this team has to generate more turnovers to have a successful 2023.
New York finished 23rd in total takeaways last season, recording a meager 19 turnovers. Wink Martindale was hired alongside Brian Daboll to get the ball back to the offense, something he may need to will out of his personnel if they are to become serious contenders.
More Interceptions

Piggybacking off of the need to create more turnovers, things really start with members of the Giants’ secondary getting their hands on the ball in 2023, something they struggled to do last season.
Only recording six interceptions in 2022 is simply not going to cut it in this league, especially given the rate at which teams throw the ball in the modern NFL. They hope that selections like Deonte Banks at corner or signings including Bobby McCain at safety change their fortune this year.
