The Tennessee Vols could be the program that gets one prominent SEC coach fired in 2023.

It won't be just Tennessee that's responsible, but the Vols could be the program that puts the proverbial nail in the coffin.

Earlier this week, CBS Sports updated their list of coaches that are on the "hot seat" entering the 2023 season.

And Texas A&M Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher, unsurprisingly, was included on their list.

Fisher, who is among top 10 highest paid coaches in college football, is entering his sixth season at Texas A&M. The former Florida State head coach is 39-21 through his first five seasons with the Aggies and he's coming off a massively disappointing 5-7 season.

Despite recruiting at a high level, Fisher hasn't been able to deliver the on-field results that folks at Texas A&M expect, which is why he finds himself on the hot seat this fall even though he has a large buyout ($76.8 million if he's fired after the 2023 season).

From CBS Sports: Look, we're not predicting that Texas A&M is going to pony up $70 million-plus for the buyout after this season if things continue to go sideways. However, hot seat is the topic, and Jimbo is certainly on one. A major bounce back is needed from the Aggies after their first losing season (5-7) since 2009. Jimbo hired Bobby Petrino as the new offensive coordinator and will (maybe? hopefully?) give him 100% play calling duties. Talented QB Conner Weigman and a deep receiving corps give the Aggies a chance offensively (101st in scoring last season). The usual slog through the SEC West looms. TAMU travels to Tennessee, LSU and Ole Miss. Is eight wins enough for Jimbo to keep his job? Stay tuned.

Fisher could be facing quite a bit of heat by the time Texas A&M travels to Knoxville take on the Vols on October 14.

The Aggies could be 2-4 by the time they play Tennessee (losses against Miami, Auburn, Arkansas, and Alabama are certainly possible).

If the Vols blow out Texas A&M in Neyland on October 14, it's very possible that Fisher is fired as the Aggies have a bye week the next weekend. That's usually the ideal time to fire a coach in season.

Standing at 2-5 after seven games with matchups remaining against South Carolina, Ole Miss, and LSU isn't guaranteed to get Fisher fired, but I can't imagine he'd be feeling very confident about his job security at that point.
