The Tennessee Volunteers got quite the tough pull for their first bracket game in the Men's College World Series. LSU's Paul Skenes is a buzzsaw and future first-round pick in the MLB Draft. Looking ahead though, the road doesn't weaken for the Vols.
Firstly, they have to take on Stanford, another national seed that's loaded with All-Conference talent. Their lineup was the best in the PAC-12 and a top unit in the country. If they win against Stanford, they'd have to face off on Tuesday against LSU or Wake Forest. Keep in mind that Wake is the top overall seed in the nation.
If they handle business there, they'd have to beat whoever won that aforementioned Wake/LSU matchup from a couple of days prior. Then, Thursday would be the culmination of the run when they would need to beat that team (Wake/LSU) one more time.
The battle is an uphill one for the Vols, but that's how the College World Series breaks down after losing the first game in your bracket. The challenge is unrelenting, and the teams are the best of the best. For the Vols, the road to a championship looks extremely difficult right now.
We'll see if Tony Vitello and co. can put it all together for a magical run this week.
