Getting more weapons is never a bad thing, right?

Unfortunately, there are some question marks surrounding the running back position. While all signs seem to point to Javonte Williams being back in action, we've seen what injuries can do to a team.

A recent CBS Sports article linked Denver to a game-changing All-Pro. While it's a longshot, Payton has proven time and time again that he'll do whatever it takes to win.

While Payton has expressed that Williams could be back by the start of training camp, nothing is certain. That, and the newly-acquired Samaje Perine is also battling with his own thumb injury. While Perine's injury is nothing serious, it just shows how quickly things can turn sour in a position group.

Denver has been linked, once again, to Las Vegas running back Josh Jacobs. Jacobs addition would undoubtedly shake things up in the crowded running back room that also features

Payton had even gushed about Jacobs just this offseason, expressing that Jacobs was " ..downhill, physical runner. For a team that wasn't necessarily always having success, he was always consistently playing well… I encourage everyone to look at him, get him out of the [AFC] West."

Getting Jacobs from a division rival is highway robbery, especially if it costs the team virtually nothing to obtain him. Denver could swoop in, convince Jacobs to rescind the franchise tag, and pull another fast one on the organization.

Cody Benjamin from CBS Sports highlighted some more specifics about how the Broncos and Raiders could pull off the tricky move, and why it would make sense for the Broncos organization.

"…could use downhill insurance as Javonte Williams returns from injury, with newcomer Samaje Perine better suited for No. 2 duties. Las Vegas could simply rescind the franchise tag if it knows Jacobs is committed to netting a bigger deal elsewhere, allowing the Raiders' quasi-Patriots regime to save an instant $10M and revert to a RB-by-committee approach."

Does Payton have another splash signing in him? Or is the front office okay with the weapons they currently have? Regardless, we wouldn't be surprised to hear if Payton had, at the bare minimum, kicked the tires on bringing Jacobs to Denver.
