According to Dalvin Cook, he and DeAndre Hopkins have just one thing on their minds this offseason: winning.
One of the top running backs and one of the top receivers are both free agents at the same time, which is not common occurrence in the NFL. Because of that, Cook is not opposed to teaming up with Hopkins, which is good news for the New England Patriots.
"Everybody knows who D-Hop is. You know what you're getting out of D-Hop. You know what he gonna bring to your roster. And it's the same for me. The film speaks for itself," Cook said on the Adam Schefter Podcast. "But we haven't talked. And he was one of those guys that I was going to reach out to, because, like, I know he got the same mindset as me, like we trying to go win. We're trying to go on the roster and trying to go contend."
Hopkins recently finished up a visit with the Patriots, which reportedly went very well and New England is expected to "make a push" for the Pro Bowl receiver.
The Patriots already have a strong battle going for one of the official wide receiver spots on the 53-man roster, the signing of Hopkins would mean the end for another in New England.
However, one area that is fairly shallow is the running back position.
The Patriots have five running backs on the roster after releasing James Robinson. With Damian Harris headed to the Miami Dolphins following last season, Rhamondre Stevenson is currently at the top of the depth chart, with Pierre Strong, Ty Montgomery, Kevin Harris and J.J. Taylor behind him. However, it wouldn't hurt to add additional experience.
With that talented of a running back available in free agency, the Patriots could certainly look to add Cook.
And if both Hopkins and Cook move to New England, the Patriots are a dangerous team that has the possibility to make a deep run in the playoffs.
"If we can get up on the same roster and be on the same team, that will be the beauty of the situation," Cook said." If we end up on the same roster, that would be something epic for the NFL."
Cook was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round (41st overall pick) in the 2017 NFL Draft. Across six years with the Vikings, Cook appeared in 73 games with 1,282 carries for 5,993 yards and 47 touchdowns. On the receiving side, he had 221 receptions for 1,794 yards and five touchdowns.
Since he joining the team, the Vikings have made the playoffs three different seasons, only making it as far as the Conference Championship in 2017.
Cook's eyes are now on the larger prize.
"My production on the field is all I can control," Cook said. "I just want to go contend for a Super Bowl. That's the situation I'm in right now."
"If I walk into a situation, it's going to be a situation where I can help somebody take that next step of trying to go get that Lombardi Trophy. And that's all I got my mind on. The money part is going to come. That's my agent's part. Me, Dalvin Cook, I'm looking for somebody that's ready to go win. I can be the piece to go help somebody turn the page to go win."
