There's one offseason roster move the Kansas City Chiefs still need to make according to ESPN.

On Wednesday, ESPN revealed one offseason move that each NFL team would be wise to make before the regular season gets underway.

And their choice for the Chiefs involves keeping a key player around longterm.

ESPN thinks the Chiefs need to work out a contract extension with defensive tackle Chris Jones before the start of the 2023 season.

Jones, a four-time Pro Bowler, is set to be an unrestricted free agent after the 2023 season.

Extending Jones would ensure that Kansas City keeps one of their top defensive players beyond 2023 while also giving the Chiefs some salary cap relief.

From ESPN: No surprise here, as the Chiefs have talked this offseason about their openness to extend one of the NFL's best defensive players. Jones is entering the final year of a four-year, $80 million deal and is due for a raise — likely north of $22.5 million per year, which is where other elite defensive tackles have checked in this offseason. An extension for Jones would also create cap space for the Chiefs this year, which they need.

It feels like this is a move that's probably going to happen. Jones is one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL. I don't think there's any question that Kansas City wants him to remain on the roster longterm. Extending him now would eliminate one task for next offseason while also giving the Chiefs some extra salary cap space for in-season moves.
