One NFL analyst talked about the Kansas City Chiefs and their situation with DeAndre Hopkins.
The last few weeks have been a bit crazy for Hopkins, as he has had meetings with a few teams, most notably the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans. It's been quiet on the Chiefs' end.
We know that according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Chiefs and Hopkins were talking, but Odell Beckham Jr. and his contract scared Hopkins away from Kansas City. Since then, it's been quiet on their end.
"Yeah, I didn't get the sense when I was out there [Kansas City] and having some conversations with their plans for the future that DeAndre Hopkins was a player that they were going to make a big investment in on," ESPN's Dianna Russini told A to Z Sports' Buck Reising. "So obviously, you look at their roster, and of course, they could use a type of player like him despite the fact that Mahomes told me that, you know, the receiver competition right now is so good.
"He feels so good about where they stand, collectively that, you know, they seem very comfortable and good with the roster that they have right now. But that being said if Hopkins market changes and the contract he's looking for changes. Then it's a different story. You know, because I know the Buffalo Bills, they would sign DeAndre Hopkins if he wants 3 or 4 million a year, but he's looking for that OBJ-type money, and we'll just see if he'll be able to get it."
Russini summed everything up perfectly. The Chiefs don't need Hopkins. Getting him would be a luxury. They didn't have a superstar wide receiver last year when they traded away Tyreek Hill, but Mahomes still had an MVP season and a Super Bowl MVP.
Getting Hopkins would take the offense to a level I like to call "Uber Elite," where they would be pretty much unstoppable. However, the offense right now is still the best in the league, as it was last season.
Chiefs could find themselves back in the mix for DeAndre Hopkins
The Chiefs need him badly.
