Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid gives injury updates on Jaylon Moore, Travis Kelce after Week 6 win vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Several Kansas City Chiefs players battled through bumps and bruises in their Week 6 victory. Andy Reid addressed a handful of them after the game, including one starter who was ruled out.
The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 22-6 in Week 6 of the 2026 NFL season. After the game, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid delivered his typical postgame injury update, covering a list of bumps and bruises from the division win.
Kansas City avoided any significant injuries against the Chargers. However, several players dealt with minor injuries and played through them during the game. Here’s what Reid had to say, plus one notable name he left out.
“As far as the injuries go, Jaylon Moore has a concussion,” Reid said. “That’s the one that probably stands out the most. (Travis) Kelce tweaked his ankle there. Continued to play, might be a little sore tomorrow, but he did a nice job tonight. And then the rest of that, everybody worked out. I mean, (Jalen) Royals went into the tent to be checked for a concussion, but he was good there. And then Kingsley (Suamataia) got kicked in the calf, but he should be OK.”
According to Reid, the most notable injury was the head injury to starting right tackle Jaylon Moore. Moore suffered a concussion during the game and was ruled out. Reid confirmed the diagnosis after the game. Moore was replaced by Joshua Ezeudu, who did a solid job filling in on both pass protection and the run game.
Chiefs TE Travis Kelce toughed out an ankle injury during Week 6
Reid’s update on Chiefs TE Travis Kelce was about what you’d expect. Kelce exited early with an ankle injury and hobbled to the sideline, where the training staff assisted him. He had his ankle wrapped and returned to the game. He then exited a second time to return to the training table and have the ankle rewrapped.
Kelce played the remainder of the game after the second wrap. The Chiefs were cautious with his snaps, but the ankle injury didn’t seem to limit him. He caught 4 passes for 53 yards on 5 targets. Don’t be surprised if the Chiefs attempt to give Kelce some time off during the practice week leading up to Week 7’s game with the Seahawks. He might not like it, but he might need the rest to get that ankle right for Sunday.
Jaylen Royals and Kingsley Suamatia both return after brief absences
Reid also spoke on two other injuries that caused brief absences.
Wide receiver Jalen Royals took a head hit and had to be checked out. NFL spotters pulled him from the game, and he went to the blue medical tent for a concussion evaluation. The NFL’s independent neurologist ultimately cleared Royals to return. Still, the team will monitor him for any symptoms that show up once the practice week resumes ahead of Week 7’s game.
The other brief absence belonged to starting left guard Kingsley Suamataia. He took a cleat or a knee to the calf late in the fourth quarter. Suamataia missed a few plays on that series while the training staff attended to him on the sideline. Mike Caliendo replaced him briefly on those plays.
Reid says Suamatia will be OK. Caliendo started the Week 4 game against the Las Vegas Raiders and held up just fine in Suamatia’s absence. That wasn’t injury-related, mind you. If the calf lingers, Kansas City has a reliable fallback option.
Chiefs HC Andy Reid gave no update on Nohl Williams
Reid’s postgame update left one name out: starting cornerback Nohl Williams.
Early in the game, Williams was injured after making a tackle for loss. It looked like a shoulder injury, possibly to the clavicle. Based on the TV replay, it didn’t look good initially. However, Williams missed very little time. He returned on the ensuing series and was instrumental throughout the Chiefs’ Week 6 win over the Chargers.
Reid’s failure to mention the brief absence suggests this is a minor injury and not something that will keep Williams out going forward. It didn’t keep him out against Los Angeles, and he contributed big, finishing with four total tackles, two passes defended, and a tackle for loss.
It’s a good sign for Kansas City that Williams, Royals, Suamataia, and Kelce all finished the game. The focus now shifts to Moore’s progress through the concussion protocol and how the injury report shakes out once the Chiefs return to practice ahead of their Week 7 matchup with the Seahawks.
The good news is that starting left tackle Josh Simmons is making progress in his return from a back injury. He was limited in practice all last week and could be in line to return in Week 7. That’d soften the blow if Moore had to miss the week.
