It seems as though all eyes will be on the Denver Broncos next season.
Admittedly, some of that is probably due to the subpar product that was on the field last year. However, the organization is looking to completely turn things around. This was evident with one splash hiring: Sean Payton.
Since his arrival, Sean Payton has done everything he can to put his fingerprints on the team. From bringing in his own staff, adjustments to the locker room, and changing things up drastically from the previous regime, it's no doubt who the leader of this organization is, at least from an optics standpoint.
Payton knows how to win, plain and simple. And from what assistant head coach Mike Westhoff says, it all starts in the classroom, so to speak.
"Assistant head coach Mike Westhoff… he said that Sean Payton -and he's [Westhoff's] been around a lot of great coaches- is the best on-the-field teacher he has ever been around," NFL Network's James Palmer said on a recent episode of NFL Now.
Westhoff has been an NFL coach since 1982 and he's worked with legendary coaches like Don Shula and Jimmy Johnson, so that's a hell of a compliment for Payton.
And it's obviously huge for the Broncos. Let's be real, there probably wasn't a lot of effective teaching going on in 2022 and that's because Nathaniel Hackett's coaching staff -outside Ejiro Evero- didn't really know what they were doing.
Where this is bound to help, and it's what should get everyone most excited, is Russell Wilson. Payton's teaching ability and his reputation with quarterbacks should help Wilson become the guy everyone thought he was going to be last year.
If Payton can keep up with the reputation that Westhoff has given him, then we should see a vastly-improved Broncos squad in 2023.
