It is nearing time for the Indianapolis Colts to finally make their first-round draft selection. Barring something crazy, the Colts will be picking their quarterback of the future in the top-5 of the 2023 NFL Draft.
ESPN draft experts Mel Kiper and Todd McShay teamed up together to make a three-round mock draft. In their combined mock, the duo predicts that the Colts take a signal caller in the first-round and then another offensive prospect in the second-round.
Furthermore, the first two picks for the Colts were actually teammates on the collegiate level. Therefore, there would be a level of familiarity at two important positions for first-year head coach Shane Steichen.
Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson is the prediction for Indianapolis in the first-round. Richardson might be the most dynamic prospect in the entire class and would fill the biggest need on the Colts' roster in a big way.
Indy has to solve the problem under center. Richardson might not be ready to play right away, but the sky is the limit on his potential. With a huge arm and great mobility, he'd be a dynamic player running new coach Shane Steichen's offense.
Richardson is regarded as a high-ceiling prospect thanks to his elite athleticism at the position combined with impressive playmaking ability. He would fit nicely in a Steichen-led scheme, playing the Jalen Hurts role.
Next, the draft experts predict that the Colts take Florida offensive lineman O'Cyrus Torrence at No. 35 overall. Torrence is considered to be one of the top interior linemen in the class and would provide Indianapolis with some beef up front.
If we're giving the Colts a quarterback in Round 1, we should help that passer here. Torrence can clear running lanes. He and Quenton Nelson would form one of the league's most tenacious guard tandems.
Torrence began his career at Louisiana-Lafayette before transferring over to play for the Gators during his final season. Reuniting the quarterback and lineman duo would be a wise move by Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard.
The Indianapolis Colts finish the three-round mock by adding South Carolina corner Darius Rush, who would potentially be a nice pick for the secondary. But, the story of the mock is the Colts pairing the Florida teammates back together in the NFL.
