Another free agent veteran is joining the Cincinnati Bengals' defense as March comes to a close.

Free agent defensive end Tarell Basham is signing with Cincinnati, per his agent Kenny Zuckerman.

Basham, originally a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, has bounced around quite a bit in his six years as a player. Now 29, He's played in 82 career games and has 70 tackles, 11 sacks, and five forced fumbles to his name for four different teams.

The Indianapolis Colts drafted Basham in 2017 and then waived him in the middle of the 2018 season before the New York Jets claimed him. Basham would last there for two years until the Dallas Cowboys signed him in the 2021 offseason. Dallas waived him during the 2022 season. The Tennessee Titans were his latest team, as he played five games last year for the two-toned blue.

When Zuckerman says "Back home!" in regards to his client, he ain't lying. Basham played four years of college ball at Ohio University.

His defensive coordinator was a guy named Jimmy Burrow, who has a son named Joe.

That's right. Basham was the third-to-last Bobcat to get drafted after playing under Joe Burrow's dad, who was OU's DC for 14 years. Jimmy Burrow retired in 2018, a year after Basham graduated.

The length of Basham's deal is unknown, but it's likely a one-year contract similar to what Sidney Jones IV signed earlier this week. This gives the Bengals a veteran at defensive end who will compete with and push homegrown talents like Cam Sample, and Jeff Gunter.
