The Indianapolis Colts have added a former division rival to its offense in free agency. Running back Darrynton Evans is signing with the Colts after spending last season with the Chicago Bears.

Prior to his stint with the Bears, Evans was a member of the Tennessee Titans. The former Appalachian State ball carrier was a third-round pick by Tennessee in the 2020 NFL Draft. Now, he is back in the AFC South.

Evans has flashed when healthy. However, he has dealt with injuries in his career. Perhaps a change of scenery will do some good for Evans as he joins a loaded running backs room in Indianapolis.

The Colts already feature Jonathan Taylor as the lead back in the backfield. Additionally, Zack Moss, Deon Jackson and Jake Funk are all in the mix, too. Evans adds even more depth and competition to an impressive unit.

Which is good news for multiple reasons. Head coach Shane Steichen helped engineer the league's best rushing offense while with the Philadelphia Eagles last season. It's clear that Steichen will lean on some of that in Indy.

Furthermore, a productive ground game is always a good thing for an inexperienced quarterback. Indianapolis is expected to select a rookie signal caller in the first-round of the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft.

Evans played in just six games for the Bears in 2022. He rushed for 64 yards on just 14 carriers during his limited action in the Windy City. After impressing in a workout for the Colts on Friday, he's ready for his next opportunity.

The former Titans and Bears back should compete for the RB3 spot on the depth chart with Deon Jackson behind Jonathan Taylor and Zach Moss. He also brings some potential upside to the special teams unit.
