Seahawks GM John Schneider evaluates Anthony Richardson following his pro day
Seattle joined 31 other teams to watch Anthony Richardson on his pro day, where the quarterback prospects dazzled.
Anthony Richardson put on a show during his pro day on Thursday.
In attendance were Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider and the rest of the team's brain trust, who took a photo with Richardson, whom the organization has thought highly of since early in the draft process. When Schneider left Richardson's pro day, he was impressed.
“He was really impressive,” Schneider said Thursday on Seattle Sports 710. “Great athlete, great young man. He has a ton of physical talent, no question about it. … He did a great job. He had fun, he was loose and he had a good time with his teammates.”
For the better part of the last few weeks, the Seahawks have been making it quite obvious that they are looking to select a quarterback with the No. 5 pick.
Despite giving Geno Smith the extension he was looking for, and retaining Drew Lock on a one-year deal, Seattle is still quarterback hungry. Richardson could be the guy the franchise chooses to usher it into its next generation.
And if Schneider's opinion following his pro day is any indication, the Seahawks may be willing to bet the No. 5 pick on the former starting quarterback at Florida.
When it comes to connections, it is also apparent that Richardson has a connection with Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, who, in an NFL Draft combine report, hit it off immediately.
"(Carroll) had this big smile on his face," Richardson said of his NFL Combine visit with Seattle per a March 6 report from ESPN. "We shook hands, and something about it was just different. You only see these guys on TV. And now I'm in their presence and they're right there talking to me. And they're interested in me. That makes you feel good."
Though all signs point toward the Seahawks selecting Richardson, there is still some uncertainty and questions regarding the type of NFL quarterback he can be.
"There’s definitely questions there like there are with all these guys," Schneider said. "He’s 6-6 as a starter. New staff this past year with Coach (Billy) Napier."
Questions or not, Seattle likes what it sees in Richardson, and it should he has oodles of talent.
"At times I was very inconsistent throughout the season," he said, per NFL. "So I'm just trying to put that behind me and stay consistent 'cause I know inconsistency is not gonna work at the next level."
That may be enough for Seattle.
