Sean Payton and George Paton are doing everything they can to take the Denver Broncos to the next level. And at the same time, wash away last year's awful memory of the team's abysmal effort and performance.
Russell Wilson, unfortunately, was a far cry from the superhero he was believed to be when the blockbuster trade was finalized. Instead, he was more Clark Kent than Superman on the football field. However, Payton and Paton are doing whatever they can to build an impressive unit around him.
Instead of an entire rebuild, the Broncos' GM and head coach are looking to find complementary pieces. The two bolstered the offensive line with some huge signings as free agency started along with making some moves that take care of their own.
Fans are always waiting for that splash signing. While a few offensive linemen will help Russell, it's not quite what the Broncos faithful were expecting. A recent report may be exactly what the organization and fans need to help take the team to the next level.
While just a rumor, Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook may be a target for teams. It's been reported that the Minnesota Vikings may be willing to part ways with the talented running back and the Broncos have been linked to the Pro Bowl running back.
Bleacher Report highlighted a few of the top destinations if Cook were to be released and had the Denver Broncos as the No. 1 option. The article highlighted the question mark surrounding the position with the Broncos' current roster. Javonte Williams is currently rehabbing from a torn ACL with no end date in sight. That, and last year the Broncos were 21st in yards per game.
Cook would inject the offense with some much-needed firepower in the running game. Additionally, Gary Davenport flirted with the real reason the Broncos should be in on a Cook acquisition, "…head coach Sean Payton's biggest priority this year is getting the Broncos back on track. Cook would help them do that—especially in the short term.'
Giving Russell Wilson another year to learn the offense, paired with Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and potentially Cook would be an exciting prospect to say the least. Anytime you can give your quarterback dynamic weapons it's a net positive for the team.
