This is a good time to be a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. The team is going to be in contention for a Super Bowl for a long time to come, and prestige like that mixed with a great front office is going to make Philly a prime destination for most trade destinations or free agent signings.

Perhaps that is why a recent bit of smoke has popped up regarding the Eagles going out and trading for star running back Derrick Henry.

It's fun to treat the NFL world like a game of Madden and go after every top name. Unfortunately, this isn't Madden, and the Eagles would be wise to say no to this trade.

It doesn't matter how many times you say it, people just won't ever seem to get the fact that running backs don't have value in the modern game like they used to.

Now, Henry is a bit of a unique case. In a world where running backs don't matter, Henry has been able to act as a unicorn in many aspects as a pure runner and has done a lot to single-handedly keep the Titans in playoff contention.

The Eagles just don't need a player of Henry's caliber to up their overall shots at making it back to and winning the Super Bowl.

Philly already has a decent depth chart of running backs that can limit mistakes and grind out yards after Jalen Hurts has opened the defense up. There is also still time for the team to go out and find a draft pick or a free agent that costs half the overall capital as Henry.

What this really boils down to is usage, and the Eagles don't need Henry at running back because they already have a great player that can take direct snaps at the goal line and find massive success in Jalen Hurts.

It is fun to think about ideas like this, but reality can make the situation very different when discussing trades like this. Henry could up the run game for the Eagles in 2023, but his salary would likely worsen other positions that could prove far more important to the team if it really wants to make it far in the playoffs.

For now, the Eagles need to say no to this trade and any others that look like it.
