If you watched the 2023 NFL Draft on ESPN on Friday night, you might have thought Tennessee Vols defensive lineman Byron Young was drafted earlier than he actually was.
That's because Alabama's Byron Young was selected a few spots ahead of Tennessee's Young.
And when the pick was announced, ESPN's Mike Greenberg started telling the famous story of the football journey of Tennessee's Young (assistant manager at Dollar General, junior college).
It was a confusing moment for folks watching the draft as fans weren't sure which Young had actually been picked. Even Young's family — the Vols' Young — started celebrating when Alabama's Young was selected (see the confusion).
Tennessee's Young was selected by the Los Angeles Rams with the No. 77 overall pick, seven picks after Alabama's Young was selected by the Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 70 overall pick.
Young was the fifth Vol selected in this year's draft. A couple of other Vols, including linebacker Jeremy Banks and offensive lineman Jerome Carvin, could be drafted late on day three.
