The Indianapolis Colts do not control their own fate in the 2023 NFL Draft. That much is very clear as the team sits at No. 4 overall and third in line in the quarterback pecking order.
As a result, Indianapolis already sits on shaky ground. Especially with the entire league well aware of the fact that the Colts desperately need a franchise passer. Chris Ballard cannot afford to miss out on that guy later this month.
Which makes things tricky. The Arizona Cardinals could very well trade out of the No. 3 overall selection since they are locked into Kyler Murray. And it just so happens that a rival may be interested in jumping the Colts in the draft order.
That rival? The Tennessee Titans.
Tennessee does not need a quarterback in the same way that the Colts, Carolina Panthers, or Houston Texans do. However, the Titans may be tempted to draft a rookie in a class where as many as four signal callers could be selected in the top-five.
Anthony Richardson is the prospect being linked to the Colts the most during the pre-draft process. Indianapolis is set to meet with Richardson for another time next week. But, the Titans are also scheduled to visit with the Florida product, too.
Richardson will meet with the Raiders, Panthers, and Colts before visiting the Titans, Falcons, and Ravens later this month. He has a busy couple of weeks ahead of him with the draft just weeks away.
It is easy to see why the Titans are intrigued by Richardson. He is a special athlete behind center with limitless potential. Furthermore, the Titans are reportedly exploring the possibility of moving up in the draft order.
Richardson might be the guy that they have interest in. Which would therefore force the Colts' hand in a big way. Indianapolis can simply not afford to sit back at No. 4 and hope the draft falls to them.
If they do, they risk one of their biggest rivals spoiling their plans in a big way. That's with the Texans landing their own franchise quarterback, too. The clock is ticking.
