Philadelphia Eagles DT Fletcher Cox 'excited' about Cam Jurgens
Cam Jurgens will be trying out a new position in training camp, and Fletcher Cox is excited to battle with all summer.
Cam Jurgens will be a must-watch during the active portion of offseason workouts.
Jurgens, as the second-year offensive lineman, will start getting reps are right guard, lining up across from Fletcher Cox, because Isaac Seumalo went to the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency.
It's a move defensive tackle Cox is excited about, as holds out a belief that the Philadelphia Eagles will sort out offensive line holes as the offseason progresses.
“He’s taken some reps at guard, so I don’t think it’ll be all new to him, but it’s different than playing center,” Cox said to Chris Long, on Long’s “Green Light” podcast recently. “I’m excited to see him, if he ends up in that position, grow.”
Jurgens is embracing the challenge of possibly playing the new position well.
"I can definitely work [right guard] into the offseason," Jurgens said a few days following the loss in Super Bowl. "And we’ll be back here for OTAs as well.
"I mean, I’m going to approach it the same as any offseason, go in expecting to get better, get stronger, and the offseason is a good time to work on speed, strength, and skill. And when you get back to the team, you work on position stuff, and we’ll see.”
If Jurgens is going to succeed at right guard, he will have to deal with Cox all summer long.
“He’d be at right guard and we’ll have our battle during training camp if he’s put in that position, and it’ll only make him better,” Cox said.
The first day of any offseason action is set for May 22, with eight more OTAs until June 9.
“Whatever the decision is, I’ll be okay either way,” Jurgens said of the decision on who the starter at right guard. “I’d love to learn under (Kelce) or play next to him for another year. That would be pretty cool."
As for Cox, he remains excited to see what Jurgens can grow into at the position.
