On Thursday night, Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Darnell Wright became UT's first player selected in the first round of the NFL Draft since Derek Barnett went in the first round in 2017.

Wright was selected with the No. 10 overall pick by the Chicago Bears on Thursday night in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The West Virginia native is the first Vol to be selected in the top 10 since Eric Berry in 2010.

Wright will reunite with one of his former Tennessee teammates in Chicago. The Bears selected former Vols wide receiver Velus Jones Jr in the 2022 NFL Draft. Wright and Jones spent three seasons together on Rocky Top.

The former Tennessee offensive lineman, who is best suited to play right tackle, will join an exciting situation with the Bears.

Chicago had a tough year last season as they went through a major rebuild, but they appear poised to compete in the NFC North with Justin Fields under center.

Adding Wright will give Fields some much-needed added protection. Protecting Fields was a big weakness for the Bears this past season.

Wright was excellent at Tennessee, excelling against tough defenses like Clemson, LSU, and Alabama. He should have no issues adjusting to life in the NFL.
