Many uncertainties still lie ahead for Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa suffered three concussions during the 2022 regular season, but his new offseason hobby could help prolong his career.
Tua’s scorching hot start to his 2022 campaign landed him at the center of the MVP conversation. Unfortunately head injuries derailed Tua’s third year in the NFL as well as the Dolphins’ Super Bowl hopes.
Fans would wince every time Tagovailoa took a hit and fell to the ground. Some national talking heads even suggested that Tua should hang up his cleats and retire due to his concussion issues.
That being said, Tua is now taking matters into his own hands.
Tagovailoa joined FanDuel TV’s Up & Adams to discuss how becoming a dad has changed his perspective.
“It’s the best thing in the world,” Tagovailoa said. “I don’t think it forces me to be afraid of wanting to come back and play. It definitely makes me want to do things to help myself to not be in those positions next year.”
Tua announced he plans to begin judo training in order to learn how to protect himself in vulnerable positions.
“We got a plan set up and I’ll be doing judo on Fridays just so that I can figure out, you know, understanding my body and how to fall.”
Dolphins fans should rejoice in the fact that Tagovailoa is willing to try new things if it means keeping him safe from more head injuries. Credit Tua for exploring all options and prioritizing his safety as he moves forward with the Dolphins.
