The Kansas City Chiefs are fresh off of a Super Bowl title. They feel like they are on top of the world. As far as the football world, that's pretty accurate.
That being said, they will endure an off-season just like every other team in the league.
Head coach Andy Reid, his players, and the front office would all tell you that there's plenty to accomplish during this off-season. What does the roster need to improve upon in order to be an even stronger force next season?
They have three clear needs that should be on the top of their list during the NFL draft and free agency over the next handful of months.
Offensive Tackle
Offensive tackle was a bit of an inconsistency for the Chiefs during this past season. Both Orlando Brown Jr. and Andrew Wylie had their struggles at times.
Accordingly, adding a high impact OT would make plenty of sense for KC. Actually, it is necessary. Both of their current tackles are unrestricted free agents, and it is doubtful that both will return.
The Chiefs will need at least one starter at tackle most likely, and they could use a depth OT as well.
Wide Receiver
Wide receiver was less of a need than many believed for this past season.
Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and company got the job done. In fact, they were even better than the prior season when Tyreek Hill was in the building for the Chiefs. That being said, the room at WR is thin.
It could get thinner if JuJu Smith-Schuster doesn't return next season. Mecole Hartman will be a free agent as well.
The Chiefs need to address wideout early in the NFL draft, and adding at least one impact FA WR would make sense as well. Travis Kelce is the best tight end in football, but they need more threats at receiver in addition to him.
Cornerback
Young players really stepped up at cornerback for KC this season.
The Chiefs need more depth at the position, though. It is possible that some regression could come for a couple of those young players. Even if it doesn't, an impact CB could be a game changer for the Chiefs next season.
Adding a solid CB2 to go alongside L'Jarius Sneed would create an awesome duo. Trent McDuffie has a really bright future, but they shouldn't have to rely on him quite as much going forward.
