The Kansas City Chiefs will likely need a new quarterback coach after losing Eric Bieniemy, the offensive coordinator, to the Washington Commanders.

Yeah, he was an offensive coordinator, so why would the Chiefs need to find a quarterback coach? Well, there is a huge possibility the current quarterback coach, Matt Nagy, the former Bears head coach, will likely be promoted to offensive coordinator, and here is why.

Nagy was the Chiefs' offensive coordinator in 2017, when the offense was seventh in the league in points per game at 25, with Alex Smith as the quarterback.

He was fired as the Bears' head coach and then hired this last offseason as the Chiefs' quarterback coach. He is likely going to get a chance in an offense he already knows.

If he does, there are two guys I could see getting elevated to the quarterback coach role, that is already on the Chiefs coaching staff.

The first one is Joe Bleymaier, the Chiefs wide receiver coach. Bleymaier is in his second season as the wide receivers coach with the Chiefs and was previously the pass game analyst and assistant quarterback coach for three seasons. Before that, he was the quality control coach.

Bleymaier has been with the Chiefs since 2013. Often times a quarterback coach was previously a wide receivers coach, as is Bleymaier.

The other potential guy that could be promoted in house is David Girardi, the pass game analyst and assistant quarterbacks coach.

If Bleymaier doesn't get the promotion, Girardi surely will, as he has already worked with the quarterbacks being the assistant quarterbacks' coach, so it only makes sense.

Girardi has been in his current role for two seasons now and has been with the team since 2018.

The Chiefs are likely going to go in-house, and if they do, these two guys would be perfect for the job. They really can't go wrong with either.
