The latest mock draft from CBS Sports has the Philadelphia Eagles making a selection in the first round that would likely mean saying goodbye to a Pro Bowl player.

CBS Sports' latest mock draft has the Eagles selecting Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs with the No. 31 overall pick (that's the last pick in the first round due to the Miami Dolphins forfeiting their first-round selection).

From CBS Sports:

This would be a slam dunk for the Eagles. Let Miles Sanders walk in free agency and replace him with the do-it-all running back that is Jahmyr Gibbs.

If the Eagles select Gibbs with the No. 31 overall pick, it would likely mean that running back Miles Sanders, who was named to the Pro Bowl this season, won't be back in Philly in 2023 (Sanders will be a free agent in March).

And I don't think that will be bad a move. I'm never an advocate of giving running backs big free agent contracts.

Not all running backs are created equal — talent matters — but running back is the one position where teams can save money by rolling with a younger option. Having a running back on a rookie contract helps the salary cap quite a bit.

Gibbs would certainly be a nice fit in Philly because of the lower salary cap hit and because of his skills.

The Georgia native, who turns 21 next month, would be a perfect fit in the Eagles' offense. He's dynamic out of the backfield and he's also an effective pass catcher (44 receptions for 444 yards at Alabama last season).

It would be tough to watch Sanders walk — especially after his great 2022 season. But it might be best for the future of the franchise.
