The NFL’s Pro Bowl Games allowed Minnesota Vikings standouts to take the field one final time this season. After an exciting week in Las Vegas, Vikings QB Kirk Cousins was under center in the flag football game between the AFC and NFC.

The re-imagined Pro Bowl featured three games, each with two halves, allowing all six quarterbacks to play in a game. The scores of each game were combined in order to decide the winning team. Cousins, who was named the starter for NFC, didn’t take the field until the final game.

Cousins’ later-game heroics have been well documented this season, leading eight comeback wins for Minnesota. So, it made sense for him to play the role as the NFC’s closer.

The move worked out for the NFC’s head coach, Eli Manning. Cousins brought the NFC back from a halftime deficit, sealing the game on a controversial defensive holding call in the back of the endzone.

“I told Kirk the other day, ‘Hey, you’re the starter in this game. You were pretty good in the fourth quarter this season, if we’re down a little bit I’d like for you to be the guy. Sure enough, we were down and he lead us to victory,” Manning said after the game.

For Vikings fans, watching Cousins, Dalvin Cook and star wideout Justin Jefferson showcase their talents on a national stage had to be a pretty fun experience, no matter one’s opinion of the re-imagined Pro Bowl itself.

Hopefully, Cousins’ clutch gene carries over into 2023. While partaking in the Pro Bowl Games brought a smile to everyone’s face, I’m sure Cousins would prefer to be preparing for a Super Bowl at this time next season.
