On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins hired one of the league’s best defensive minds in Vic Fangio, making him the highest-paid coordinator in the NFL, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Fangio is a homerun hire for Miami who, like the Vikings, must improve its lackluster secondary. That being said, Fangio exiting the coaching carousel doesn’t throw a major wrench in Minnesota’s plans.
The Vikings have met with four potential candidates to fill the void Ed Donatell leaves behind after the team decided to part ways with him following Minnesota’s postseason exit.
The three external candidates the Vikings have interviewed are Saints co-defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen, Seahawks associate head coach Sean Desai and Steelers senior defensive assistant and former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores.
Minnesota has also conducted an interview with its assistant head coach, Mike Pettine.
There are plenty of viable options still available, though Flores certainly would create the most buzz amongst the Vikings’ fanbase.
