Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon has been with the team for just one week, and the new GM is already proving that he is all in for his new franchise.
Carthon previously served as the Director of Player Personnel for the San Francisco 49ers before being hired by Tennessee for the GM vacancy. With the 49ers still alive in the playoffs, many of Carthon's friends and coworkers are getting set for the NFC Championship game this weekend. While Carthon had initially planned to go to the game in support, he has now decided to miss it and spend the weekend working with head coach Mike Vrabel instead.
Carthon appeared on The Adam Schefter Podcast where he explained his thought process behind missing the game.
"My initial plan was to go, but I've got a job to do here," Carthon told Schefter regarding the NFC Championship Game. "I owe it to the people that are here. Mike (Vrabel) and I will be on the road together heading down to Mobile for the Senior Bowl. It's time for me to get to work."
Carthon added that no longer working in the organization will allow him to support his friends in San Francisco from afar and approach the game with a relaxed fan mindset. Meanwhile, all of his energy and effort will be focused on fixing the Tennessee Titans for the 2023 season.
Things don't get more collaborative than roadtripping with your head coach to go scout talent at the Senior Bowl. The Titans wanted collaboration and teamwork, and that's exactly what they're getting from Carthon early on.
The Titans' new GM is putting his San Francisco era in the past and diving head first into the tall task that faces him this offseason. That's one way to make a really strong first impression on the fanbase.
