Former Vol causes a stir with cryptic tweet, but Tennessee fans shouldn’t get excited just yet
Could former Tennessee Volunteers defensive lineman Jaxson Moi return to Rocky Top in 2026?
Former Tennessee Vols defensive lineman Jaxson Moi caused a stir on Sunday with a cryptic tweet that many assumed was in reference to the recent news concerning class of 2022 players.
U.S. District Judge Charlotte Sweeney ruled last week that all high school class of 2022 athletes who exhausted their fourth season of college eligibility this spring are eligible for a fifth season in 2026-27.
Moi, who is currently a rookie in training camp with the Los Angeles Rams after signing with the franchise as an undrafted free agent, is a class of 2022 player, and he fought for another season of eligibility earlier this year. It was only after learning he wouldn’t be granted another season of eligibility that he entered the NFL Draft.
With this new ruling, there’s been speculation that Moi could now return to Tennessee in 2026.
So when Moi sent a tweet that said “interesting…” on Sunday, the immediate assumption was that it was in reference to a potential return to Tennessee this fall.
Moi is considered a longshot to make the Rams’ 53-man roster. If he returned to Tennessee, he would immediately bolster the Vols’ defensive line depth.
Unfortunately for Moi, the NCAA announced on Sunday evening that players who have signed pro contracts won’t be eligible to return to college in 2026.
In this current age of college football, nothing is ever final until a judge says it is. We’ll see if any players in training camp, such as Moi, fight back against this ruling. It wouldn’t surprise me if at least one player files a lawsuit, but it’s anyone’s guess as to whether or not it would be successful.
