The Philadelphia Eagles look to pull off the trifecta when the New York Giants roll into town for Saturday night’s NFC Divisional Round matchup.

It’s not easy to beat the same team three times in the same season, but that’s what Philadelphia must do to march on in the playoffs. The Eagles dismantled New York in a Week 14 contest to the tune of a 48-22 beatdown.

The second meeting between these two NFC East rivals was quite unordinary. The Giants rested most of its starters in the Week 18 clash, but fought hard losing by the score of 22-16.

There have been 35 instances in which teams who have swept the regular season series against one foe have met in the playoffs for a third game. In those 35 games, the team that won both regular season contest has a 21-14 record (60%).

It’s not as strong of a data point as one might expect, but history shows that the better team usually comes out on top. Eagles fans will hold out hope that this postseason trend continues in front of a raucous home crowd at Lincoln Financial Field.
