The Kansas City Chiefs gave Patrick Mahomes an ultimatum during their win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Mahomes obviously didn't like it.
During the first quarter, on the second possession to be exact, Mahomes ankle was landed on, and it didn't look good at all. He ended up finishing the next few plays but went to the sideline to get looked at.
During the Chiefs' 98-yard touchdown drive by backup quarterback Chad Henne, Mahomes got his ankle looked at by the Chiefs' training staff, and the X-Rays came back negative.
We saw how Mahomes acted though when he was told to go to the locker room. He didn't like it, at all, and that was probably the maddest we have seen him in quite some time. He threw his jacket on the ground right after he was arguing with Reid and the training staff.
After the game, we learned that the Chiefs gave Mahomes an ultimatum.
"Yeah, I did not want to get out, and they kind of gave me the ultimatum that I wasn't going back in [the game] unless I went back there [locker room]," Mahomes said in his post-game interview done by NBC. "They are trying to take care of me, and we have a lot of great people over here, but it's going to take a lot to take me out of the football game."
This was easily the right decision by the Chiefs. I know this isn't the same situation, but with everything that has been going on with other teams around the league and their concussion issues, and not pulling guys out of the game, the Chiefs couldn't not check Mahomes. For all we know, if they didn't check, Mahomes could have been playing on a broken ankle or something like that.
Luckily, they got the X-Rays, it wasn't as bad as they thought, and they let him go back in.
Now, we just need to hope that Mahomes ankle heals okay. Not just for next week, but for his future in general.
