Two players critical to the Philadelphia Eagles’ success could be on their way back as soon as this weekend, according to head coach Nick Sirianni.
Star quarterback Jalen Hurts has missed the team’s last two games due to an injury to his throwing shoulder. However, with the Birds needing a win over the New York Giants to lock up the NFC East and the No. 1 seed in the NFC, Hurts could be making his return on Sunday.
“He’s trending in the right direction, we feel good about it, but we’ll see how today goes,” Sirianni said of Hurts ahead of Friday’s practice session.
Getting Hurts back would be significant at this point in the season. While his health is of the utmost importance, his return to game action could help shake off some rust, especially with a Wild Card round bye looming if the team can take care of business.

Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson is making significant strides to return to the lineup. Gardner-Johnson suffered a lacerated kidney in the team’s Week 12 win over the Green Bay Packers, causing the fan favorite to miss the team’s last five games.
Gardner-Johnson’s 21-day practice window opened on Wednesday, as he works his way back from the team’s Injured Reserve list.
“We’ll see how everything goes throughout today’s practice, but he’s done a nice job and we’re hopeful. We’ll see what happens. He’s had a god week of practice as well,” Sirianni revealed.
Gardner-Johnson led the NFL with six interceptions at the time of his injury. Somehow, he has managed to stay atop the NFL leaderboard, though he’s now in a four-way tie for the league's lead.
The Eagles will have more clarity after watching the pair go through Friday’s practice, but all signs are pointing to a return sooner rather than later.
