The latest mock draft from CBS Sports has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers making a massive mistake in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports has the Buccaneers trading up with the Arizona Cardinals in the first round. His trade scenario has Tampa sending the No. 19 overall pick, the No. 51 overall pick (second round), a 2024 first-round pick, and a 2024 fourth-round pick to Arizona for the No. 3 overall pick.

Wilson then has the Bucs drafting Kentucky quarterback Will Levis with the No. 3 overall selection.

From CBS Sports:

Tom Brady has re-retired and the Bucs currently have Kyle Trask under contract … and that's it. This would be a bold move but if Tampa stays at No. 19, four QBs could already be off the board. Levis, who definitely looks the part, was plagued by injuries and poor play all fall. That said, NFL teams love how he projects to the next level but he'll be a controversial talking point in the coming months.

If the Buccaneers make this trade, the whole front office in Tampa should be fired.

For starters, that's a lot to give up for the No. 3 overall pick when there isn't a sure thing in this draft at the quarterback position (I love Alabama's Bryce Young but his size is certainly a concern).

Secondly, Levis shouldn't even be considered a first-round pick, let alone a top-five selection.

Levis has the physical tools — great arm, hard to tackle, ideal size, etc.

But that doesn't mean he's going to be a good quarterback in the NFL.

Levis is sloppy with ball security and he could be a turnover machine at times at Kentucky.

The Tennessee Vols, for example, had one of the worst passing defenses in college football in 2022. Yet they managed to limit Levis to 98 passing yards last season while coming down with three interceptions.

Once things go south for Levis, they usually don't get better. He often looked rattled on the sidelines last season when things weren't going well for Kentucky.

There's no doubt that Levis has traits that translate to the NFL — the zip on his passes is impressive.

But he's not a guy that's shown he has the intangibles to succeed in the NFL. The "it factor" that guys like Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen have just isn't present with Levis.

NFL scouts seem to agree, by the way.

From Pro Football Network:

While many on the outside grade Levis as a potential top-10 pick, the feeling in the scouting community could not be any more different. Talk to scouts, and they’ll tell you Levis is a big-armed athlete with great size who’s still far from being a complete quarterback. As they say, he’s more of a thrower than a passer.

The last thing the Bucs need to do is mortgage their future for a potential first-round bust. They'd be much wiser to hold onto the No. 19 pick and take the best player available. Landing Derek Carr or Jimmy Garoppolo to take over the quarterback position in 2023 seems like a much better option than giving up a ton of draft assets to take Levis.
