Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has assembled what some would consider to be the best coaching staff in the NFL. However, Eagles QB coach Brian Johnson received the ultimate compliment from Jalen Hurts during his Super Bowl LVII media availability.

Johnson has coached Eagles quarterbacks since the 2021 season. He deserves plenty of credit for helping Hurts acclimate to the NFL and rise to the superstar that he’s become. In fact, Hurts showered Johnson for helping keep things simple throughout his developmental process.

“Football is the same, it’s about how you communicate certain things to people,” Hurts told reporters on Tuesday. “I feel like he’s a great communicator. He’s been able to simplify some things. And I think it holds a lot of weight that he’s played the position. He’s the best quarterback to come through Utah, so I think that holds a lot of weight.”

Experience Matters

Like Hurts alluded to, Johnson is a legend at The University of Utah. In college, Johnson backed up Utes legend Alex Smith to begin his career. Once Smith graduated, Johnson went on to become the winningest quarterback in school history.

Following his playing days, Johnson spend a decade coaching in the college ranks. He was the offensive coordinator during his stops at Utah, Houston and Florida, where he also held the title as a quarterbacks coach.

To sum it up, Johnson’s experience with quarterbacks has clearly been received by Hurts, who put together a career year in 2022.

“He’s gonna be a star one day, he’s gonna be a big-time head coach one day,” Hurts said.

“Hopefully we can keep him here as long as we possibly can, but nonetheless I’m proud of him and it’s definitely just the beginning for the both of us.”
