Ran Carthon's introductory press conference was a raging success, as the Tennessee Titans new General Manager won over the hearts of fans and media with his sincerity, professionalism, and ambition.

Carthon made a few things abundantly clear during his time at the podium: He is committed to collaborating with and prioritizing the needs of head coach Mike Vrabel, and he is striving to be great, not just good.

With those goals in mind, Carthon will certainly have his work cut out for him in year one. The Titans are currently in the bottom three NFL teams in available cap space with negative $23 million, according to Spotrac. Carthon will have to navigate the cap while simultaneously rebuilding his offensive line, perusing contract extensions with Jeffery Simmons and other key players, and solving the widely debated quarterback situation.

Will the Titans cut or keep Ryan Tannehill? Is Malik Willis ready to be an NFL starter? Who will be available and financially acquirable in free agency? Can you draft a quarterback at 11th overall?

These questions will be answered in due time, but for now, Carthon has the perfect outlook on the Titans' quarterback situation. here's what the new GM had to say when asked if Ryan Tannehill would be the team's starting QB next season during his introductory press conference.

"I don't think that is fair at this point. We are still evaluating the roster," said Carthon. "That is going to take further conversations between Mike (Vrabel) and I. Ryan (Tannehill) has been great here. He has won a lot of football games. I look forward to us winning the football games, but I still need more time to evaluate and make those decisions. This is a quarterback driven league and people are hired and fired every day over that position. I want to spend more time evaluating that position. I will have my own opinion and Mike (Vrabel) and I will confer to figure it out."

It's no surprise that Carthon wouldn't commit one way or another to Tannehill's future, he's been the Titans GM for all of 48 hours. The process of evaluating the quarterback play last season should be an extended one, spanning the next few weeks as Carthon and Vrabel continue to meet and exchange analyses.

Carthon also made it a point to emphasize the importance of a QB in today's NFL. "This is a quarterback driven league and people are hired and fired every day over that position" could not be a truer statement. Landing the right quarterback in the right scheme is the fastest way to sustained success and job security.

Lastly, I find it encouraging to hear Carthon say he would form his own opinion on the situation before conferring with Vrabel on the matter. It's easy to mistake collaboration for submission, but just because Carthon is making his relationship with Vrabel the priority does not mean he will relinquish all control or say in the matter.

Carthon is one of the game's top talent evaluators, and he was hired for a reason. What the 49ers have been built in San Francisco is enviable for any NFL franchise, and it was a team of people like Carthon that made that a reality. Hiring from that organization will bring fresh eyes and fresh perspective to problems that have ailed the Tennessee Titans for years. You want that General Manager to come with his own evaluations and opinions, and that's exactly what Carthon is doing in regards to the team's future at quarterback.

Just a perfectly said, concise response to the biggest question surrounding the Titans this offseason. That's a strong first impression.
