It wasn't that long ago when Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was fighting for his life on the football field.
At that moment, no one was considering his future in the NFL. Rather, they were praying and hoping the talented athlete would pull through.
Now, the entire sports world was just given an update that completely changes Damar Hamlin's future.
Hamlin's remarkable recovery has been capped off with a promise like no other. NFLPA medical director Thom Mayer flat-out guaranteed that Damar would play football again.
Mike Florio, from profootballtalk.com, discussed what led up to the stunning guarantee. Mayer, who was appearing on SiriusXM's show Heart to Heart, opened up on Hamlin's situation.
Responding to a caller who asked about Hamlin's future, Mayer was blunt yet careful with his words. “I don’t want to get into HIPAA issues, but I guarantee you that Damar Hamlin will play professional football again.”
This wasn't a maybe or that Hamlin might have a chance to return. Mayer was confident in Damar Hamlin's return to the football field, despite the odds.
It cannot be overstated just how incredible the journey has been since his traumatic injury on Monday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals. Since the injury, the entire world has been tuned in to every update surrounding the safety.
Earlier today, another chapter in the Damar Hamlin saga took the world by storm.
Hamlin received the NFLPA's 2023 Alan Page Community Award. This reward is selected by his NFL peers and is given to someone that goes above and beyond to perform community service in his team city and/or hometown.
Now, just hours later, Hamlin was given an update that completely changes the trajectory of his life. It is said that nothing in life is guaranteed, but don't tell the NFLPA medical director that.
Here's hoping we can see Damar Hamlin on the field sooner rather than later.
